Archers Begin Title Defense with Win After winning their second straight championship, the Archers look forward to making it three in a row this season, and they would start against the team they defeated in the spring championship—the Vudoo. Jimmy “Butch” Cassidy opened the scoring halfway through the first as the Archers kept the Vudoo off the board by the end of the period. Taka Okai increased the lead to two goals a minute and a half into the second, but Vudoo captain Gary Len brought his team back within a goal a minute later. Rookie Phil Gakos tied the game shortly afterwards, but Kevin Horstman put the Archers back on top before the period ended. In the third, Chris Melillo “and Stitch” gave the Archers some breathing room to make it 4-2. He and his teammates did an excellent job of killing the remaining time as they held on to win by that score.
