Back and Forth Game Ends With Hooligans Overtime Win

Sunday, November 28, 2021

The first period would mostly be Vudoos, who would outshoot the Hooligans 13-5; along the way, they would go ahead when Mike Cenatiempo would wrist in a rebound after Mike "Mikey Jr." Cenatiempo, Jr. would be denied. The next Vudoos' goal would be Mikey Jr. from James Woods-Corwin, who this time would get the better of Hooligans' netminder James Coughlin, but a late period goal by Chris Gallo would halve the Hooligan's deficit, and it would be 2-1 Vudoos going into the second period.

All things considered, it wasn't a bad first period for the Hooligans, who would have an opportunity to equalize in the second period, but would be unable to when Pete Peterson made a highlight reel glove save. On the other end, Coughlin would keep his team down one with a blocker save on a scorcher, and he would be rewarded with a goal by Chris Vitale, which would level it at 2-2. That 2-2 scoreline would hold going into the third period, with the shots now 18-10. Vudoos.

The third period would be more of the back-and-forth play, with each team generating chances, but unable to go up. That would be until the Hooligans would take their first lead through Zach Milos on a rebound after Ryan Jones would be denied from Dave Leong, but there would be Cenatiempo from Mikey Jr. to equalize for the Vudoos, now 3-3. Mikey Jr. would continue his onslaught with another goal, and his fourth point, this one when Tom "Godzilla" Godon would play him in with a phenomenal lead pass. Only 3:58 would be on the clock when Mikey Jr. would bring it to 4-3 Vudoos, and the Hooligans would now be up against it, trying to find another goal. With around 2:30 to go, the Hooligans would pull Coughlin for the extra attacker, and it would pay off with some opportunities. But so far, Peterson would hold firm and the Vudoos would remain ahead. Now with time really dwindling, the Hooligans would generate one final opportunity on a scramble in front of the Vudoos' net. With nine seconds until triple zero, they would level it when Chris Gallo would whack in after Ryan Jones and Big Davey Leong would help, and overtime would have to decide the outcome.

The shot totals would now be 28-17 Vudoos, who would have the better of the play so far in the extra period, but would not yet be able to beat Coughlin. After a turnover, the Hooligans would get their one and only shot of overtime, when Keith Plescia would cut in from the right wing and go low for the game winner, a 5-4 Hooligans win worth two points. The Vudoos would get one point for their performance, and would outshoot the Hooligans at a nearly 2:1 clip, 34-18.
