Archers and Vudoos Draw
Sunday, November 24, 2019
Archers' Captain Jason Fischbach scored with 13:37 (or leet) remaining in the first period, but he would eventually be assessed a rough, and the Danger Zoners went shorthanded. The minor penalty would not reach its conclusion with the Arches unscathed because pristine puck movement by the Vudoos would see James Woods-Corwin score from Ray "Ziesse's Peanut Butter Cup" Ziesse to level it. The intermission would come with it all square, then David Fischbach would sit for a trip. This time the Danger Zoners were able to prevent the Vudoos from scoring, but the momentum would now be on the side of the Shamans. Riding their momentum, the Vudoos would go in front with a slapper by Fred Hoth from Will "The Wild Card" Dimock, but Fischbach was unwilling to allow his crew to go into the third period down, and darted in on a breakaway where he deked and galvanized his team.
Scoring the first goal of the third period would be Ryan Schmitz with a laser through traffic after Josh "Sumo" Sumoski finesses a fluttering puck to him. The better of the play was clear now, and the Archers dashed into the Vudoos' zone, which would back the Vudoos on their heels. With their defense all out of sorts, the Vudoos would surrender another goal to the Archers when Ryne Mondello lit the lamp for his boys. The Archers were up 4-2 and had the clock on their side, but the feisty Vudoos played themselves back into it with some plays drawn up by Captain Gary Len. Len's studious approach was rewarded when The Wild Card looked off a teammate to fool the Archers' defense and went into the slot where he scored. A winding down clock , 2:33 to go, and matching minor penalties to Sumoski and The Wild Card (the Vudoos man with 1G, 1A so far) would mean a difficult road to come back,, but then it would become bumpier when the Archers would go on a power play with Dan Scerra sitting for a trip. With only 2:12 in regulation, the Vudoos would have to be more aggressive, they were, but couldn't equalize. Sumoski and The Wild Card exited the box, but still, it was a one goal Archers lead. A frantic finish was to come and Scerra sprinted out of the box to even it up, where he caused a ruckus. The Archers were unable to get the puck out of their own zone, and right before the buzzer, they would allow The Wild Card space, and he got the tally to square it at four, and overtime would have to decide a winner.
The overtime period was fairly mundane, each team already out of fuel due to the Archers trying to hang on to their lead, and the Vudoos trying to eliminate their deficit. Tired all around, neither team could do much, and it would be a draw, 4-4.
Will "The Wild Card" Dimock (2G, 1A) won the Buffalo Wild Wings Man of the Match Award.
