Alex Smondyrev Hat Trick Means Five Skater Pterodactyls Win

The Pterodactyls would have a five man group to go with while the Vudoo had nine men. A scoreless first period would pass before Alex Smondyrev beat Pete Peterson with a fantastic slap shot, off the bar and in. The Pterodactyls would continue to try and counter, preserving their energy while trying to maintain some firepower. They would do this, with Gena Denezhnyy assisting Smondyrev, who roofed in another, but the Vudoo would finally get on the board when Mark Schwanda eluded Jeff Leidner after Tom "Godzilla" Godon led him in on a breakaway. Now 2-1, the Pterodactyls were getting tired, but the Man of the Hour, Smondyrev, was the beneficiary of a marvelous setup with a snipe from Geof Grek and Adam "Manhandle" Crandall, increased it to 3-1. Manhandle's hook would sit him for two minutes, during which the Vudoo got closer when Ray "Ziesse's Peanut Butter Cup" Ziesse assisted his team's second goal. Now only ahead by one, the Pterodactyls would have to hang on to the finish line; it wasn't easy because the Vudoo would hit the crossbar, but the Flying Fossils would hang on with only five skaters, in a 3-2 win.
