Vudoo Stun Bulldogs

Wednesday, January 2, 2019

The Vudoo won their previous game to get to ten points, but the Bulldogs were the fiercest of the Division II combatants, with 33 points, leading for the whole of the season.

An early Bill Mondano goal would get the Bulldogs going, then Dan Scerra's trip would sit him for two minutes. The Bulldogs surrendered a short handed goal to James Woods-Corwin from "King" George Dimock and Grace "The Ace" Dimock, which was augmented by excellent goaltending by Pete Peterson. Frustrated, the Bulldogs would have to go into the second period tied 1-1.

The Vudoo found another gear, but couldn't go in front when Joseph Ursino came up big on a Jim Schwanda boomer. Ursino would keep up his solid play for the next few minutes until he was beaten by The Ace, who pinged one bar down with a fantastic wrister, from King George. The King would follow his assist with a high sticking minor, but this would see the Vudoo get another goal come short handed, with The Ace firing a pinpoint pass to Woods-Corwin, who went in on a breakaway and did the rest. At 3-1, the Vudoo had the Bulldogs running around, and would go into the third with that advantage.

The third period would stay at 3-1 for the majority, but Peterson was there whenever the Bulldogs were on the prowl. Erin Venittelli's hook would put the Vudoo on a power play, with Ursino's goaltending coming up big to maintain his team's chances to win. At least for the Vudoo, they would keep the Bulldogs from scoring short handed, a small consolation, but they did force the Bulldogs to use their timeout and catch their breath. The Bulldogs would be unable to get another, so they pulled Ursino, but this only meant Woods-Corwin would complete his hat trick. Ursino returned to play, Tom "Godzilla" Godon scored from Mark Schwanda, and Chris Ruck would finish from Colin McMullen to get the Bulldogs closer, with the final scoreline 5-2 Vudoo.

The Buffalo Wild Wings Player of the Match Award's winners were James Woods-Corwin (3G) and Grace "The Ace" Dimock (1G, 2A).
