Ooff! Win Teeter-Totter Battle

Wednesday, December 5, 2018

Ooff! winning over the Vudoo in regulation would put them two points behind the league leading Bulldogs and into a tie with the Brewers. While the K-9 team and Beer Makers have two games in hand after tonight, the Onomatopoeia Crew would be ahead of the Brewers with a better head-to-head record and would be making a huge statement in their quest for the one seed. The Vudoo would get out of the bottom of Division II and leapfrog both the Hooligans and Puck Pimps into ninth place with a regulation win, and with Pete Peterson between the pipes, it would be a bit easier than the stats indicate; the Vudoo netminder has been one of the few bright spots for the struggling team, but a decent run by this veteran group will get them into the middle of the table, and PTAHL headquarters knows they are capable of this, with them being league veterans.

Fred Hoth opened the scoring from Tom Thrun to get the Vudoo off to a start they desperately needed. They would be on their heels for the rest of the first period with Peterson holding it down by making a few highlight reel saves, including diving from one post to the other, snaring one with his glove, and earning plaudits from both teams. With Peterson on the money in the first period, the Vudoo would still be ahead 1-0 going into the second.

Peterson would finally be cracked by Jimmy DiPaolo from Brendan Kinney, but Grace "The Ace" Dimock was there to regain her team's lead, with Ray "Ziesse's Peanut Butter Cup" Ziesse assisting The Ace. Unable to build on their lead again, the Vudoo were pipped back with a Nicole Terpak goal, then it was more of the Pete Peterson show (who is a big Dominik Hasek fan) starring Pete Peterson. Pro Tec Legend Brian Rappleyea was impressed with Peterson's play, as he stoned Ray Sarlo from point blank range and knew he was witnessing a fantastic performance that could turn the Vudoo season around. A late second period goal by Mark Schwanda from Gary Len would be huge for the Vudoo, who went into the third up by one.

The teeter-totter affair continued, despite more fantastic saves from Peterson, who was constantly bailing out the Vudoo. A flukey bounce after a DiPaolo shot was blocked went to Milton Solis, who tied it, but George "The King" Dimock was able to get the Vudoo's fourth lead from Ziesse's Peanut Butter Cup. An immediate responds by Kinney would pull Vudoo back for the fourth time, then Andrew Ruffino got Ooff!'s first lead with a pinpoint laser. The Vudoo would get a power play when Ray Sarlo went off for a hook, but could not get one past Dean Bogner. After the power play, the Vudoo called timeout and pulled Peterson, but were unable to reward their netminder for his fantastic performance, going down 5-4.

Pete Peterson, with countless highlight reel saves, won the Buffalo Wild Wings Man of the Match Award.
