Ooff! Survive Vudoo's Three Goal Third Period

Wednesday, June 13, 2018

It took nearly the entire first period for someone to score, which Ooff! eventually did, finding the net with 3 seconds on the clock, when Benny Monasseri hit home a rebound after Pete "The" Sims fired on net when his Captain, Andrew Ruffino, set him up in the slot. Obviously taking the momentum with a late period goal, Ooff! would go into the second frame on the front foot, doing that more so when they notched goal number two with two seconds left, with Jimmy DiPaolo poking in with assists by Ryan "Also The" Sims and Monasseri. 1:06 into the second period, the Vudoo's misery continued when Jackson Storer sped in on a breakaway, deking a few times, and getting it to 3-0. Only 1:37 went by when Monasseri tallied his second goal of the game, as a rout seemed to be on the way. Into the third period it went with the score still 4-0, but after just nine seconds of play, Mark Schwanda and Ryan "Also The" Sims would go to the box for matching roughs. Long after the two returned to action, Schwanda and Ray "Ziesse's Peanut Butter Cup" hit Brian MacLean, where he got his team on the board with a snipe. 9:18 remained, but the Vudoo were still having trouble getting consistent pressure on Ooff!. It took seemingly forever for the Vudoo to trim their deficit, which they did on Gary Len's tip from Grace "The Ace" Dimock. With 2:27 left, it was close enough to where our local affiliates switched from the other nonsense on television to pick up the TV feed at PTAHL headquarters. Vudoo now had the much better play than their opponent, eventually scoring their third goal with 32 seconds left on MacLean's effort. Vudoo called timeout to formulate a final attack, and a frantic final 32 seconds was on; Ooff! had an unfortunate bounce take them back down by their own goal line, where a battle in the corner began. The seconds ticked away, but the Vudoo scooped up the puck and were looking to get one final attempt off. James Woods-Corwin found Mark Schwanda in the high slot, who teed up with less than five seconds remaining. Schwanda's shot was off well in time for a goal, but Dean Bogner was there to tip the blast over the crossbar with his mitt, as Ooff! hung on for a 4-3 win.
