Vudoo Hang on for 6-5 Win

Thursday, September 7, 2017

It was the Admirals who would jump out in front when Darren Kamikura's goal came from rookie Vincent Pellegrino. They would go down a man after Tim O'Connor's interference, but Mason Resende's smooth goaltending kept them ahead. But at even strength, the Vudoo would beat Resende: Gary Len found Ray "Ziesse's Peanut Butter Cup" Ziesse, who blasted in a one-timer. A Vudoo penalty came to George Dimock, a hook, but Pete Peterson equaled Resende's solid goaltending, helping to kill this one in the slickest of manners. Ziesse's hook occurred with 1:59 left in the first period, but another Vudoo kill ensured they would take the momentum into the second 15 minutes.

Kamikura was called for hooking, and the Vudoo not only kept their momentum, but took the lead with Tom Godon's snipe on the power play. Jesse Peterson doubled the Vudoo lead, but Kamikura made up for his malfeasance by finishing from the young gun of this Admirals lineup, Midshipman Tommy Whitney. Whitney then got the Admirals on equal ground at 3-3 with some pretty moves, showcasing his acceleration, leaving the Vudoo in the dust. Godon's second of the night came, which was followed by a Jim Schwanda goal, which deflected off a skate. Now 5-3, Godon completed his hat trick to send the Vudoo into the third period with a three goal advantage, and even more momentum than when they entered the middle frame.

The Admirals were up against it, but knew they had the tools to come back. Tommy Whitney quickly scored, making it 6-4, but the Admirals would have to focus on keeping the deficit at two, due to the trip of O'Connor. The kill kept their hopes alive, and Midshipman Whitney scored his third, getting the Seamen down one. The last few minutes were typical of the PTAHL, high energy and crazy, but the Admirals were unable to complete their comeback, with the Vudoo winning 6-5.

Tom Godon, who had a hat trick, won a share of the Hockey Haus Man of the Match Award, along with Tommy Whitney, who, in a losing effort, recorded a hat trick and an assist.
