Vudoos Slump Continues

The Vudoos continue to be victory challenged as the Archers handed them their fifth straight defeat Wednesday night, 4-7. Pat Mack had two goals and an assist with Ray Ziesse adding two more goals but the Vudoos still fell to the Archers for the third time this season.

The two-time defending champion Archers look to continue battling for first place as they meet the struggling Vudoo. Six minutes into this game, Chris Melillo put the Archers on top, but Pat Mack quickly responded to tie the game. Late in the period, rookie Charlie Amann regained the lead, but once again Mack tied the game. Melillo scored again before the period ended to send the Archers into the second with a 3-2 lead.

Scoring slowed down drastically in the second period as the Archers were finally able to prevent Mack from tying the score, but the Vudoo kept the Archers from expanding their lead. Late in the period, Ray Ziesse scored to tie the game at three just in time for the third period.

Amann scored again in the opening minute of the third as the Archers took their fourth lead of the game. This time, they scored the next goal to keep the Vudoo from tying the game as captain Jason Fischbach finally scored his first South Division goal this season on a breakaway to make it 5-3. Two minutes later, Josh Sumoski increased the lead to three goals. Ziesse scored again with six and a half minutes to go, making the score 6-4. The Vudoo battled hard to get back in this game though, and they had a great opportunity to do so when defenseman Taka Okai was called for slashing with 4:52 remaining. However, Mike Davison came up with two huge glove saves to preserve the two goal lead. The Vudoo pulled Pete Peterson for an extra skater with about two minutes to go, but this did not pan out for them as Melillo finished off a hat trick with an empty net goal to give the Archers the victory by the final of 7-4.
